Im thinking about transfering water from a nearby pond to mine and wanted to see if anyone thought it would cause an issue. My pond is about 2 ft low due to drain pipe work and the drought weve had in louisiana and im wanting to fill it up so it looks better for a wedding on the property. My pond was dug in October of 2021 and the pond id be transfering from was dug in April of 22. The ponds are about 150 yards apart and should be similar in soil type and water quality. The transfer pond is a tad muddy compared to mine but i plan to add some midnight blue pond dye to tint it. I did stock my pond in june so not wanting to cause any problems, the transfer pond has not yet been stocked.
Thanks

Are you positive that you KNOW that there are no fish or otherwise invasive species (fish, plants, invertebrates) in the pond that you will get water from? If you aren't 110% sure, I'd use a 50 micron filter sock on the intake of the transfer pump.

Im certain that it hasnt been stocked with anything or had anything other than rain water fill it. Theres no vegetation in it yet, thats still a good idea just to be safe. Thanks for the input!

I've been transferring from one pond to another. Pumping thru 2000' of 3" poly has quite a bit of friction but still getting 100 gpm with a 3" honda / northstar setup. I've raised the receiving pond a good 18" and I think that will be fine for the upcoming winter. We got an inch of rain in last 24 hrs so that has helped a little. I have a second 2" simple trash pump moving water into some smaller ponds via 300' of lay-flat hose. Getting a good 50 to 60 gpm on that setup.

Jambi,

That is moving some serious water!

How do you have your pumps set up for long-term use? Gasoline supply, kill switches for overheating, etc.?

How much elevation change from the pump inlet to the high point on your 2000' line?
