Fish was in 12 foot of water, on a small jig. This is a private body of water probably 50 acres, and we were crappie fishing when I caught him.

Certainly a big RES. I don't know if it's a trophy.
I've got a replica RES mount that was supposedly close to or over 2 lbs.
Excerpt from Robert Crais' "The Monkey's Raincoat:" "She took another microscopic bite of her sandwich, then pushed it away. Maybe she absorbed nutrients from her surroundings."

biggest I have ever heard of was one 6lbs plus on you tube via a video by Al Lindner. The RES were stocked in lake Havasu to rid the impoundment of invasive snails and they are doing very well there. The one you caught is awesome. Congrats...

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

I loved seeing this picture. We just stocked RES in our pond and my wife had no idea what they are. I was able to show her this picture and now she's excited, LOL.

I loved seeing this picture. We just stocked RES in our pond and my wife had no idea what they are. I was able to show her this picture and now she's excited, LOL. They can be hard to catch in waters with lots of BG or CNBG, as RES tend to hang near the bottom & seem less aggressive. Almost every one I've ever caught has been on live bait near the bottom, and I don't see them at feeding time. Electro survey found a RES spawning bed at my place, I guess there's enough snails to keep them going. Great thing nowadays is that we can make a trophy replica without killing the trophy fish.
