Update: I turned all aeriation OFF to my 2 acre pond in deep east Texas last October 2020. I had 4-6 inch visibility and was desperate to try ANYTHING that might help my clarity. I have solved clay bank problems and spread MANY tons of ag lime in the pond. Nothing helped visibility. Turning aeriation off was last resort. It has been completely turned off for NINE MONTHS and pond is in best shape it has EVER been in!! Here's my question... I want to turn my aeriation pump on just to let in run so not to "lock up" on me and to keep the lines clear. How long can I run it just to test it without messing with my water clarity and killing fish from gasses also?? Would you only recommend closing off my 3 air lines to my diffusers and just run the pump? Maybe do one at a time for a minute or two? Completely disconnecting the hoses from the pump and running JUST the compressor for a few minutes? I just don't want my thousands of $ investment sitting idle and going bad on me. Any advise appreciated!! Thanks

Running it 15 Minutes shouldn't hurt anything. Have you thought about raising your diffusors off the bottom? I have mine set 36" off the bottom.

Shorty, my deepest water is only 11 1/2 foot at full pool. That's where all 3 aeriators are located. If pond gets 3 foot low like it has many times that would put my diffusers only 2 1'2-3 foot below the surface. Would that still supply oxygen to the bottom of the pond? I have thought about raising them but I had those concerns. Also my visibility has gotton to 32 inch on a secchi dish! I am actually watching my cnbg on their beds right now fighting off predators and...I am seeing schools of 6-8 lmb that are ONLY about 4-5 inch long that I didn't even know I had! I'm enjoying my pond again by being able to see into the water! Reckon I should run the aeriator for 10-15 minutes about once a month just for maintenance purposes??

Running your aeration system for 5 to 15 minutes, once a month should be fine. I would consider just running it for a few minutes each time.... just enough to prove each diffuser is functioning properly. This will clear lines, exercise the motor and pump while keeping pump temps lower to avoid internal condensation and keep dead water circulation to a minimum.

Update: I turned aeriation on for 6 minutes this morning while water was still cool from overnight temps. Started and ran as normal, diffusers bubbling as normal and no smell or "black Ring" showed up in water. I made a note to start it 1st of every month. Unless of course these hot summer months causes me to do it earlier and more often! Caught another 17 inch lmb yesterday that weighed over 3 pounds. I'm still very happy with that!

If you aren't using the system any more and don't want to use it, why not yank it out of the pond completely? I bet you could sell it and recoup at least 50% of your investment.

I just figure I may have to use it at some point and time later. Especially in hotter and lower water conditions. July and August are our 2 hottest months yet to come. I have not had a SUMMER without aeriation yet. Kind of experimenting here. But great idea of selling the system before it goes bad from lack of use.

I would keep it around just in case emergencies might come up. Just look at it as an investment that you might need someday. In the meantime look into how to get the diffusers off bottom to where they do not disturb the bottom clays. Look at all those trophy CNBG you have and those larger sized lmb that you now see and catch. That aeration might just keep them alive some day.

I'm not selling it. it's there if I ever need it. And this summer I may very well need it again. I guess I need more suggestions how to get the diffusors off the bottom. That can be a project for the grandson and I one day!! Exactly how far off the bottom? Is 3 foot the minnimum?

You and I both have the same brand of diffusers so with that in mind I set mine 27" off bottom plus the diffuser base. That eliminated the disturbance of the bottom clays. I set mine in 10' and 12' water depths but as u know they are shallower in the summer due to pond dropping during the Texas heat. Like 8 and 10'. I made several attempts in trying to stop stirring up the bottom clays but I only had success where they are at now. I built my platforms/tables out of rebar and they work great and cheap to build

I have one diffuser set 15" off the bottom in 4ft of water. It's shallow enough that I can turn it on in an emergency and run it 24/7 without going through a start up procedure. Every DO sag that I've seen the fish have headed to bank in shallow water.
