Mosquito Deleto vs. Mosquito Magnet?? Any experience? The Deleto is certainly cheaper. Magnet cordless is $700 at Home Depot. Needless to say I am concerned due to the foot of rain we have recieved in SW Florida during the dry season this year.......should make summer especially fun.

My parents bought me the Mosquito Deleto as a gift after I built my pond. I guess they thought the pond would breed mosquitos. (I actually think I have less mosquitos after the pond was built.)
For me, this product is just a waste of propane. I only found about five mosquitos and a dozen other bugs stuck to the sticky paper device after operating it several months last summer. The propane waste is bad enough, but you also have to buy the attractant and the replaceable sticky paper traps - and the refills are not cheap!
It might work better in areas that have higher mosquito populations, but I will not waste the propane to ever use it again.

Toby,

We built a house with a back porch 18 ft. from the edge of a 2.5 acrec pond. I have 40 acres with two wet weather creeks (one goes through my pond). I use the mosquito killing bacteria and do not have any mosquito problems. I apply to all standing water in Mid April (Northern Okla).

Whatever I have left over after treating the creeks, I use in the shallow area of my pond. I buy 2 two pound containers. (I am guessing here). I get mine from Lowes. I wish I had the proper name but I don't. It comes in a clear square bottle, the material is straw colored and is in granuals. Great stuff. Mosqueto larvea eat the bacteria and die.

I read that mosquitos generally remain within 100 yds of where they are born... Of course, we have wimpy Yankee type mosquitos here in North Oklahoma.

Might be cheaper and easier than a magnet. I also put up a bat house on one creek.

I have the mosquito magnet and feel like it works very well. The only thing I get tired of is changing the propane bottle every three weeks.

I bought 2 of the Mosquito Magnets 2 years ago. After 6 tanks of propane, I may have caught a dozen mosquitos.

Hey Moe, I'm trying to think but nuthin's happening!

Man, I just don't get it....we fertilize our ponds to "help" our fish and then have to treat the ponds with chemicals to kill the resulting algae and weeds....and sometimes kill our fish in the process

We feed the BG with expensive artificial feed which has its own problems and then put out bacteria chemicals to kill mosquito larva which are prime BG fish food.

I don't get it...but then I don't understand fertilizing my lawn grass so that I will have to mow it once a week in Texas either. Guess I have a lot of learning to do.

Amen, Meadow! Especially re the killing of mosquitos and larvae. I just bought a flourescent light with fan to distribute the mosquitos and other flying insects to the fish.
My father-in-law(84) mows the hollow feeding the pond every other day to get away from his wife.
Every time I drive back there and put out ant bait, he mows. Ruins the effect and causes more algae bloom(f.a. in shallows) after a rain.
