Just got back from a 2 week vacation and my pond has a green scum on top. I had some green moss forming on some underwater structure and near the edge of the pond before I left. I began bottom aeration about 3 weeks ago but no other changes. Is this normal and how long to clear up? The 1 acre pond is about 5 years old with LMB and BG stocked at about 13 foot(deepest) and 6-7 foot average depth located in east Texas. I am a newbie( lived in the city for 53 years)and in God's Country for just 4 months. Thanks in advance for your help.

BarO,

Welcome to the forum. Where are you in East Texas? I'm between Livingston and Lufkin.

The green stuff you see is more than likely pine tree pollen. I've got it all over my ponds, cars, tractors, etc. It will be gone in a few days.

We are lucky to live in an area that has bountiful rainfall which helps keep our ponds thriving.

I've got the same thing in my pond located in Tyler county,TX. I agree it's likely pine/oak pollen. Check out other ponds/lakes in your area.

Thanks for the replies. I am 15 miles west of Tyler and have many pine trees on my place. It is better this morning after having some wind yesterday. I agree that we really are lucky to live here.

I agree, we have the same problems in Florida. If you wanted to remove it a simple back pack sprayer with a foam buster product labled for aquatic use worked for us here.

It will push the pollen to the sides of the pond and open it up. Otherwise, it will clear up in a short while.

Good luck!
