Hello everyone, Besides seeing dead fish after ice-out, how would you know if your pond experienced winter kill?

If intensive fishing produced no fish. Otherwise you would have to do some gill net surveying or electroshocking.
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

If you had a significant winter fish kill, you will notice a big decline in the fish catching success once the surface water gets around 50 - 55F. Often if the winter-kill happens early or mid-winter, all the dead fish are mostly decomposed or settled to the bottom by ice off.
