Great site – to all involved here – first post. I’ve been reading the site for several weeks and ordered the magazine and one book (to get started).

After reading this site I’m amazed at how much there is to building a pond.

First round of questions:

1. Can anyone recommend a reputable “Pond Builder” in Southern Indiana? I live 20 minutes west of Louisville KY and plan on having a 2 to 4 acre pond built next summer.

2. Are redears stocked in my area (Close to Louisville KY)?

3. I’m leaning toward BG, Channels, and fatheads at first and then follow with F1s and Hybrid Striped bass the following spring. I also plan to put a couple of feeders. Anyway, would someone recommend a fish dealer for stocking?

Any and all advice is appreciated!

Bryan Stumbler Excavating for lake building. I don't have a phone #, but it should be in the Yellow pages. He does a lot of work in Floyd County. Van Winkle's Fish Hatchery in Sulphur Indiana (812-739-4820) 40 miles west of Louisville. Aquatic Control in Seymour Indiana (800-753-5253). I have bought fish from both. And yes to the redears. I am located 30 minutes north of Louisville.

I got my 1000 fatheads, 350 bg, 150re, & 100 channel cats which 25 were albino cat's (pretty cool) from Aquatic Control last April and all are doing great.
I've decided to wait for my bass until next year and am also looking into some F1's. Sense I'm waiting and I stock low for bg and re for most recommendations even Aquatic Controls new rates I’m going to put in 350 coppernose bg and 50 re and see how it goes. The coppernose is suppose to be a larger bg then the northern bg and not a hybrid bg.
I don't know how much you’ve researched but some people push hybrid bg around here and I'm glad I didn't fall into that trap.
I also looked at hybrid stripped bass to have a large bass before I decided to make my pond a little bit larger to an acre. This is the largest I could get in this spot and the smallest recommended for large lgm bass.
The old guy that build my pond won't travel that far.
I've had alot of fun so far with my pond. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies.

Appreciate the numbers DCAGLE –sounds like we are close to each other. I’ll print and save this thread.

Muddy Fork, I’d like to know how your Coppernose BGs do. I was thinking I might try them, but wondered how they’d do in our area. I’m also going to avoid the hybrid BG.

W. Robinson, how would I get a hold of the Lakedoctor?

W. Robinson, I found his email, he does sound knowledgeable - thanks! I know so little, except this project will cost me a second mortgage (hey, but who wants to leave it behind).

I'm wandering how well they'll do myself. That's why I started this post.
http://www.pondboss.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=8;t=000053
I did find some info that they’ll do fine from two of the biggest fisheries in southeast so I’m not to worried about it that I won’t try them. My family and I love to bg fish more then anything. I’d love to see the kids fighting a couple pound bg without having to worry about green sunfish breed out of hybrid bg.

I guess if they don't handle our sometimes cold winters in southern Indiana the 350 northern bg I stocked will make up for it in a couple years.

I will post info about them next spring and through the next few years.
