I just finished building my 1.25 acre pond and it has begun to fill. My question is how much of different types of cover should I put into my pond. I put 4 bunches of christmas trees (3 trees per bunch) along the sides in about 6 ft of water and have about half a dozen large stumps in the deepest part (aproximately 12ft) of the pond. Any suggestions on what I should do next?

Some cover involving all depths is a good idea.

The type and amount of cover will depend on your goals for the pond and what you are trying to accomplish by using artificial cover. Aquatic weeds and algae mats are a form of cover. There are two main types of cover: 1. fish attractors, 2. refuge area to protect small fish and allow natural fish foods to develop. Refuge areas involve lots of or extensive amounts of dense cover as in 20% -30% of the pond shoreline.

From your description above you have basically installed fish attractors.
