I have really been enjoying some of the AMAZING information archived here in the forums from long before I found Pond Boss. (special thanks to forum member Snakebite for the tips on how to best search)
My question is, what is the view on commenting or asking stuff on really old posts? Some forums don't like it when people do that because it revives that post back into the active topics. Some of the discussions and info I've found relevant to what I'm experiencing as a new pond owner have been awesome. I just didn't want to ruffle any feathers by adding to an archived topic.
Thanks for the info! (and I appreciate all y'all!)
cheers, Clayton

No ruffles here ! Old stuff is often good to go back and revisit as things could have changed.

FWIW I resurrect and add to old threads all the time if I find one on the topic I'm interested in.
I think you will find that, while you can add to old threads, you can't add to the threads actually in the archives. Those are locked and can only be changed by a moderator.

I've done it many times. I think it adds to the discussion often times with information from posters no longer active. It also sometimes shows how knowledge on a subject has evolved. For example I revived a thread once on fish feeding where the discussion was about feeding dog food because it was cheap. It showed how far the state of the art had advanced for non-commercial pond fish feeding. Another way you can bring old threads into a current discussion is provide a link to the old discussion within your post. This provides the information without actively starting the thread up. I do this frequently on topics I find of interest. Like this: Band erosion and rock lining I keep a list of threads I am permanently interested in in my "watch list". Then I can access them again easily or add a link to a discussion where I think the information can benefit the current thread.

I think if it's relevant, add to it, especially if asking how something newly described on a thread actually turned out after a few months or years.
Say a member thinks he fixed a leaking pond, ask if it's still fixed.
If a member stocked CNBG three years ago, ask how they are doing as to size, etc.

I've been here since the other moderators were all young. Do it! Fish and pond management does not evolve at the same rate as new trends and scientific information that is posted on the Pond Boss forum. Because pond management improvement/research has been changing so fast over the last few decades, it is important to look back. It is important that we simultaneously question and adopt new ideas. Don't be afraid of commenting or questioning old posts. Curmudgeon Ken

The only way to advance your mind is to challenge what you once knew.
If someone wants to add stuff to an archive thread let one of us know so we can make it happen. The only reason they are mods only posts is we did not want them to be general discussion posts. I put other PB members stuff in them all the time.

I agree 100%, but improving the omelet is difficult when you’re forbidden to break the egg shell.

I agree 100%, but improving the omelet is difficult when you’re forbidden to break the egg shell. A pin hole in each end will allow you to get the goodies out to make the omelet without breaking the shell. Even for us here, what might have been correct 16+ years ago might not be 100% correct today. Bring up the old stuff that you have questions about, we don't mind at all!!

True, perhaps “breach” the shell would be more accurate. I posted this because I was miffed. A post I made earlier this morning over in the recent GG auction thread, regarding old threads, has been removed. Sorry to read that you’re under the weather, hope it passes quickly.

Guys, a little clarification please. Is it really okay to bring up the old threads? I’m getting conflicting information. Calling out an apparent discrepancy in policy is not a personal attack. We all make mistakes, myself included. Having that brought to our attention should not be regarded as an assasination attempt on our characters. We, all of us, should strive to be bigger than that. And I mean that respectfully.

Heck Tony, I see no problem with that
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Thanks Dave, I figured that was the case with most. Enjoy the country!
