Hi Folks. I have a 2 acre pond in North Texas. I'm wanting to add plants to the pond, specifically reeds, for fish cover/habitat and aesthetics. What type of reeds are native to my region? These typically grow close to the shoreline and won't get out of control deep into the pond, correct? Also, if y'all know best place to purchase or source reeds. Thanks in advance for any advice!

I was hoping someone from north Texas might offer advice. I am in Indiana, so things that work for me might not work for you. I pull all cattails as they are very invasive. I add giant bur-reed as a replacement with higher wildlife value. I also like spike rushes (various types). Pickerel weed is a nice blooming plant, along with blue flag and lizard's tail. I just am not sure how well any of these do in Texas.

Thank you for the help. Yeah I was hoping for some response from Texas too as I'm not getting far in my limited research so far.

I recently had folks from Pond King in Texas come out and plant four different varieties of pond plants. You may want to talk with them.

I've had an outbreak of chara, but I don't think it was a hitchhiker from Pond King. Fertilized a couple of months ago...
