Good morning! Pond owner newbie here! I'm from the little village of Wyoming which is nestled in the western NY area. My wife and I recently bought 4 acres of land which our pond is approximately almost 1 acre of it. Our pond is about 12 feet deep, with a shallow area in the middle of about 4 feet deep. There were 3 old large koi in it when we purchased it. We put 15, 10-12" koi in it last summer, which have grown quite a bit over winter. We also have large mouth bass, bluegill and bullhead. We had a local trapper, trap a couple of muskrats out of it last season of which I see we still have at least 1 lurking around. He needs to go right? Also our pond is being taken over by weeds! We can't take it, I know they will disappear come mid June, like they did last year as our previous property owner told us. But that can't be good for the pond as the dying weeds settle to the bottom of the pond? So if I can post a picture of our weeds, what are they and how can we control or get rid of them? We did add pond blue last night, can't wait to see how it looks this morning!

A better close up picture would help but it does appear to be curly leaf pond weed. Pond dye will be more effective if it applied right after ice out before it gets going.

Your weed picture is like taking a picture of the crowd across a football field and trying to pick out your kids. Close-up of weeds out of the water and in your hand are best for identification.

Actually curly leaf pondweed gets growing in early fall and is often about 12"-18" tall by ice cover formation so dye is best applied or enhanced in late summer - fall.
