Today, when I was feeding the sunfish in my pond, I saw a number of 1 1/2 inch fingerlings. They had a distinct black lateral line that ran the length of the fish. Their body shape was long and slim. I do have some adult blacks in the pond. From my description of the lateral line, does it appear the fingerlings are LMB?

Very likely they were young LMB. Timing and fingerling size is right for your location.

Thanks, ewest. I believe what I saw were bass fry. They were a bit smaller than the photo, but the lateral line was just as obvious.

Don't some fathead minnows have that black line too. I thought I had some bass fry and looking closer just fathead with black line

Not to get off of LMB, but I'm seeing some smaller dark/black fry, and I'm wondering if they are SMB fry.

Sunil, that would be my guess. How big are they?

Probably less than a half inch, but they were acting/'swimming' much differently than the other several types of fry in the pond.

SMB fry are black to start.

The LMB in the jar were about 1 to 1.5 inches. The jar magnifies the fish.
