Has anyone tried this method? It appears to consist of dropping a large (several ton) flat bottomed weight from a crane, than moving a few feet and repeating. An insufficiently compacted dam core or seepage spot might be compacted this way. I have no idea how costly it would be, but does not involve cutting dirt. According to what I have recently read, compaction can occur up to 30 feet deep. Also called "Dynamic compaction".

So a Pyle driver... Iv'e seen those puppies in action, man they make a lot of noise! You cannot help coming up with some obnoxious song when those are going since you can feel the rhythm through your feet.
