Has anyone got a size chart for the age of common shiners?

Like at 1" how old should they be and so on?

At what size do they spawn and re populate? I have never seen so many minnows in our pond as we have this year.

It would be interesting to us to work backwards to estimate when they would have been spawning.

Cheers Don.

At 1" at would think they are from this years hatch. My first wave of Golden shiners that hatched in late May have some that are approaching the 2" mark now.

Yes from our first hatch we have some now that are 2-2.5"s. You can see the different generations from this year. The clouds of minnows are getting larger as we have more hatches.

What I am trying to say is the first hatch had a few that made it to 1" then later there was even more that made it to 1" and the ones that were 1" were big enough we could catch in the minnow trap. Our latest batch is the biggest bunch I have ever seen in our pond. In the early morning you can see them all schooled up on the edge of the air station swimming into the current catching as much plankton they can that floats by them. Like a bunch of hungry wolves.

These guys we are just about 1.25" or so and just about able to trap them but now we see another batch again. The new group is again bigger still.

Just wondering if anyone knows their growth cycle from hatch to being able to breed and re populate.

Cheers Don.
