I've got a 1 acre pond above my 5 acre pond. Right now the smaller pond has CNBG, SMB, YP in it for the last 3 years. It has a valve that drains into the bigger pond. I"m thinking about draining it this fall and letting it fill backup in the winter. I'm thinking long term about raising some form of bluegill in it to drain into the larger pond for forage. What size BG should I buy when I start all over again? How long do I let them breed before draining it again? every year? every 2 years? How many BG should I buy? etc. Just opening up dialogue to get ideas where to begin.

Consider redear sunfish (RES)! They are beautiful and eat snails to disrupt the grub life cycle.

There are several options . They depend on what your goals are. Several here have done just what you describe. Tell us your goals and about the water/location/temps/elevation etc..
