I just did my first fishing in my pond this last weekend. I am still confused on how to calculate my relative weight for my fish. A lot of my overtons cnbg were 5 1/2 inch long and weighed 2.5 ounces. My largest was 6.5 inch long and weighed 4 ounces. My scale weighs in pounds and ounces and not 10ths of a pound. What would be the formula to figure the fish described above and am I looking for 100% or better?? Thanks so much. My res were 5 3/4 inch and weighed 2.8 ounces

The 5.5" fish come in around 128%, and the 6.5" fish goes 120%

To calculate relative weight, divide the weight of your fish by the weight in the chart. Ideally, you want to see Wr above 80%, and above 100% would be better. So your CNBG are off to a great start!

"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"

If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1)
And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1)
Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT?
PB answer: It depends.

Here is the Wr chart I use for smaller bluegills. Fish length is expressed in whole numbers in a vertical column on the left side, while fractional lengths (in eighths of an inch) are displayed horizontally across the top.

So using your fish as an example, we caught a BG that measures 5.5" long, and weighs 2.5 ozs.

Reading the chart, we find a standard weight for a BG of that length is 1.95 ozs. So divide the weight of your fish 2.5 ozs, by 1.95 ozs and we get a tad over 128%.

Sprkplug, Thank you so much!! I just figured relative weight of 60 fish I caught and recorded. None were under 100%...2 were exactly 100%...I figured a average of all 60 fish and the average relative weight is 132!!!! That was my cnbg and res. I printed your chart out to keep at the dock.
