Dang that's a good size BCP! With gape size and the fusiform shape of an LMB I'd guess pretty big - 5-6" maybe? One of the folks smarter than me will respond with a better answer I'm sure...I'm just guessing.

You had me at 16"-18" BCP! I could be wayyy off here but I thought I read a BCP in that length range could be 4lbs or even over that. My swag 6-8" LMB

I can help with this. smile I have data for white CP. The regression says a 16-18" will have a gape of 1.26-1.44". Body depth correl for LMB would indicate they reach those BD at a TL of 5.1 and 5.8". The LMB BD correlation was for Sandy Lake in Ohio (Shoup et al, 1999).

Edit: Std wts for 16" BCP is 2.8lb and 4.2 for an 18"

Thank all of you guys even tho Dnick is I believe tryin ta confuse me. I think he and the guys that write dictionaries want to confuse common sense folks. OK, I don't know how ta use Wickedpedia, so regression is on page 381 in my ol boy encyclopedia. Now that took some time! I'm still confused but it don't matter. I was tryin ta help a mentally challenged friend ta get a supposed dead pond back ta healthy but found out it wasn't dead. It had what I believe is WCR which is probably lighter then a BLC. So far right? Anyway Dr Perca suggested I "wash my hands" of this folly of tryin ta get my friend get lucky by impressing his lady friend with said "dead pond". Gotta go and get power washed at the automatic car wash. Bob-O

My apologies sir. Been reading too many papers.

Please allow me to rephrase.
People measure fish. They have found that a white crappie that is 16" long typically has a mouth opening of 1.26" and weighs 2.8 lb. An 18" will have a mouth opening of 1.44" and weigh 4.2 lb. Those fish can swallow food that is no larger than their mouth can open. Other people have measured largemouth bass, specifically Ohio bass are used here. If a LMB is 1.26" tall, it will typically be 5.1" long. If it's 1.44" tall, it will be about 5.8" long. So a good estimate is an average 16" crappie can eat a 5" long bass and an 18" lunker could perhaps eat a 5.8" bass.

Please pardon my confusing jibber jabber. Good luck with the dead pond, and it'll take more than luck to impress lady friends. Please don't turn the power washer on yourself.

Mr Nickolaus, First of all I have obviously misled you to call me "sir", I have never been knighted as Paul Mc Cartny or Elton Schlong John have been. Obviously your intelligence outweighs my ignorance and I applaud your knowledge of the loved/hated Crappy. So stand down "Sir" and please join the other two folks that consider me a friend.
