Curious;
We are having flooding rains.
How far does water wick into the sides/bottom of a water feature? I know that it theoretically never stops but has to stop somewhere. In some way water pressure/depth must play some part.
I have a small pond with a non flowing spring in the bottom. The spring takes water when we get into a drought. At this time, the small pond is staying full. That tells me that the ground water has again penetrated below 6 ft. Due to lack of shallow ground water, we lost a lot of trees during the drought and that pond was dry. As the trees suck water, the ground water table will certainly drop and the pond is a good indicator of that water table.
I have a spring fed creek that originates on a neighbors land. It flowed for years and then dried up during our long drought. It's now flowing again and I expect it will continue. The end of Summer will tell that answer.
My well is at/into a very small aquifer at 70 ft and only produces about 1/10 gpm. Can rain water really wick down that far? How long does that have to continue to make a difference?
Yep, curious.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

It'll be interesting to see what George and Mike Otto have to say.
