I had a very good taxidermy customer over and he took out six. As big as they are 18 to 19 1/2 inches and up to about 4 3/4 lbs., I'm going to leave the rest in and take a chance and try and grow them out for one more year. Most of my taxidermy customers want 5 lb. fish.

And yes even though these are well fed fish, male brook trout do beef up at spawning time -- especially those that have Lake Nipigon Canada genes in them.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Amazing sized brook trout coming from a 0.1 acre pond. You grow great trout and other fish.

I just hope they make it another year. It's a gamble as brook trout don't have long life spans except in the far north. I've been really feeding them heavy in anticipation of getting some that were close to 5 lbs. over 5 lbs.

These are 3 year old fish. 4 is the average lifespan for domestically fed brook trout.

Another problem is I don't know exactly how many are left in the pond. I should have about 100 after removing some and some morts I removed but it seems like a lot less at feeding time. But them again when love is in the air they don't feed as well.

Outstanding!

"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"

If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1)
And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1)
Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT?
PB answer: It depends.

400 or more pounds of fish in a tenth acre. Now that is production.

Beautiful fish Cecil.

But 59,040 gallons of fresh water every 24 hours in a 100,000 gallon pond.

Raceways typically can handle 50 lbs. of trout or more per gpm flow. My earthen pond rule of thumb is about 12 lbs. per gpm.

It all depends on location. I've seen reports of slow growing brook trout in sterile streams in California living into the teens and Canadian brook trout in the double digits too. But all the literature I have seen says about 4 years average for domestic brook trout.

I had one that made it over 5 pounds at 4 years of age I caught icefishing in a previous cyle. I quickly put it into a another pond, that I added other trout to the following spring, and upon moving those fish and draining the pond the fish was nowhere to be found. So I doubt if it made it to 5 years of age.

It would be fun to get a camera down there under the ice after the water turns gin clear after shutting down the well.
