Hey George...I saw your picture on the Overton's website
about trout they sell for pond stocking in the winter in Texas.

What is the primary reason most pond owners in
Texas stock trout in their ponds in the winter?

#1. As a food source for bass
#2. To fish and catch the trout for sport?

And how long did they last in Texas?

Do they die out about the time Tilapia go in?

Mark, yes on all assuming that the bass are big enough to prey on the trout.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Hi Mark, you likely know the answer is #2 all the way for me - on the fly!

Others that I personally know are fly fishermen as well - table fare for some but not for me. Texas pond trout don’t fight like wild trout but don’t have the stream current either.
They are a lot of fun and IIRC,ours made it until May/early June the year we stocked them.

When ‘ya gitten your fly rod?
Best,
George

They taste good, but the smiles on these kids make it worth every penny.

That is why I do it... because I am a pond owner, and fisherman, and I want it to be contagious.

These are overton trout.

Thanks guys.

Interesting George on May/June
That's about when I add Tilapia

Dr. Pratt those are mighty good size trout.

I had no idea the single season winter trout came that large.

Zep, up here, trout stocked at 1# in October are 2# (without feeding) in June.

I stocked 50 2# RBT in October, fed 50# of AM600 every month (diffuser kept pond open in front of feeder) and I had 24", 7# RBT by the end of June.....

They grow FAST!
