I over wintered 5 of my largest RES from my pellet training project from last summer with the goal or seeing how large I could grow them over the winter. Back in early October I moved these five fish into a 75 gallon aquarium in my basement. At the time I had four RES that were 6-3/4" and one that was 6-1/2". These fish were 3" long when I pulled them out of the pond a year ago and were hatched in 2012.

From late last June.

Four years to go. grin

Here are the five I turned loose today, four males and one female. The female started looking gravid a few weeks ago and the males had started to show their spawning colors. They have really slowed down eating in the last few weeks as well, it was time to turn them loose.

Congrats Shorty! Nice fish!

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Very nice fish and good job growing them. You learned a lot in the process.

Not bad for 24 month old RES. smile

They should have plenty to eat in the pond as all of them like to eat small fish. I should start seeing GSH fry in my pond very soon.

Those look great Shorty. Caught my first RES yesterday from my pond and this time it was definitely a RES. 7" and should be about the same age as yours that you raised. Mine looked nice and healthy, but yours really look great. I stocked some additional 3" RES last fall but would not think they could have grown that fast to be this fish, so assume it was from the original March 2013 fingerling stocking.

I will add this thread to my RES info and links thread here. Great job and thanks for sharing. Very interesting.

Very cool Shorty, those fish look great!

"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"

If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1)
And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1)
Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT?
PB answer: It depends.
