It was most definately creepy, and was an experience I hope I never have again.
I have told that story to very few people and would certainly not have brought it up on a public forum, but the comment about the smell brought it back to me like it had just happened.
I intend to find happy hour before I go home tonight.

Teehjaeh, I guess there may be a certain romance to an encounter with something unexplainable, but I'll tell you, it was not enjoyable. It really scared me deeply.
I don't know if it was a 'sasquatch' - it is embarassing to even type that. lol. I don't know what it was.
One of the people I did tell was an old timer who was raised out on St. Helena Island and spent a great deal of time in the marshes and sea islands. We were heading shrimp on his back porch one night and he watched me intently while I told him what happened.
He didn't ask me any questions, but when I finished the story, he nodded his head and said "it's happened before." We changed the subject. I am thinking today that I will pay him a visit soon and ask him what he meant by that. There is a great deal of romance with this man (if he heard me say that he'd probably punch me in the teeth!), and he can weave a story that you could listen to all night...there are still many wild areas here, and I think he's been to most of them.
If I get something interesting out of him, I'll come back to this thread and let you know what he says.
I'll leave it with this - I will never go back to that island, and I am never in the woods anymore without my gun. I don't know that it would have helped me there, but it does give me some peace of mind.

Yellow Jacket, what was the rough size of the hummock/island?

Not making light of your experience YJ - that sounds like a very serious ordeal - but I'm glad you shared it. Amazing to hear stories of folks who never gave them a second thought, or were skeptics, only to be shaken to the core following a sighting/experience.

There have been several "encounters" around my families property. This one was about a mile North of us. http://www.texasbigfoot.com/reports/report/detail/197

Yellow Jacket, that is an amazing story! Wow. I felt like I was right there with you - very effectively communicated! Glad you're here to share it with us and will be waiting eagerly to learn what the old timer tells you, if anything.

There are Sasquatch in Washington, DC speaking sequestation.
That is way more scary than some hairy beast eating only one or two of us (even a family or two).

Not making light of your experience YJ Hey, no - I didn't think you were for a second...I just did not want it to seem like it was something cool, as I wish I could take it out of my memory. I've been reading here enough to know this is a nice group of guys and gals. Sunil, the particular hummock I visited that day is less than an acre, but it is part of multiple fingers of land that join to a large island.

This happened about 40 miles north of our place, there is still hope TJ. Teen's hairy run-in with 7-footer probed as Bigfoot encounter Stukenholtz, along with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, investigated a reported sighting of an unidentified “hairy” creature in late July on a country road that parallels the Platte River. A hair sample found at the site was still being analyzed.
A 15-year-old reported seeing the creature, which he said stood about 7 feet tall on two legs as it ran in front of the vehicle the youth was driving about 5:30 a.m. The creature then disappeared into the trees along the river.

Wow Steve that's awesome!
Al, dude - figured you'd at least call me before traveling to Nebraska. Guess I'll catch you next time.

No pics, no proof.
Besides, no Whataburgers in NE. I'd be a lost soul.

Very interesting read. You didn't seen anything just an odd smell?
See I have heard many many times here in Canada up north that you will smell a bear before you hear or see him. They have a distinctive odder to them.
Sorry to hear about your boat taking a hit from the anchor. It happens.
Cheers Don.

Those teenage girls that hit him were probably using their cell phones or texting! I was following a trailer full of goats the other day. Noticed the back door was open and tried to get the attention of the driver. Couldn't get their attention. Finally gave up and was resigned to stay far back if any goats were going to jump out the back. Then we came to railroad crossing with a train and was finally able to warn then. It was no wonder the woman didn't see me trying to get her attention: She was on a cell phone.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.
