I have noticed the FA on my pond is more prevalent in late Spring and early Summer than it is later on. It seesm to peak each year before it gets hot enough to enjoy swimming in the pond. And it is common lots of places for heavy rains (we've had a few of those, eh?) to cause FA to sink/dissipate/disappear. Maybe both phenomena ganged up on your FA?
If you were averaging 10% coverage, that's not too bad compared to some ponds around here. I know of a few that are usually 80% + covered.
