I recently got a Texas Hunter 100lbs feeder (thanks Greg Grimes). I've got it loaded with Aquamax now and have been feeding the pond (so far only fatheads are eating) for a few days.

Today when I was looking at the feeder I noticed it had some muddy footprints on one side and when I looked in the opening I saw more muddy footprints. It almost looked like a raccoon decided to get out of the rain in there. More troubling was that I noticed my solar charger plug had been unplugged and chewed on (not necessarily in that order). The plug has a fair amount of chewing already after just a few days and I'm concerned this guy is going to move onto bigger and better wiring/equipment.

Does anyone have any suggestions about securing the feeder? I'll look into making a door to cover the opening shortly which probably won't be hard. I'm sure someone else has been down this road before so if you figured out anything brilliant let me know.

Thanks.

Opening??

The is supposed to be a door that covers the side of the feeder "guts". It's held in place with 1/4 turn fastners.

The only opening is where the food comes out.

In my opinion the only way to get rid of a pesky raccoon is to trap it using a live trap, or treat the raccoon with lead.

Exactly.. My hunters are pole mounted in the pond, PITA to fill but I will eventually design somethin to make it a easy chore..

I believe in catch and release. I catch then release to the grease..

Hmmm, I either missed that in the package or it was missing. I'll go reinspect the box. I had seen videos and assumed the side was just open.

Well, that's much better. I hadn't noticed the cover in the box (it was raining at the time I took it out to the pond so I probably rushed). I know I had seen a youtube video where the cover was removed (and never shown), and since there were no visible screw holes to fasten a cover I had assumed it was just left open. I thought it was odd but figured I guess that a cover really didn't keep out the elements too much (although now I know it would help on the racoon end). Thanks for clearing it up. I like it closed up much better like it is.

Good thing the box wasn't tossed out immediately!
