I've wanted to hang a bug zapper over the pond for years now but I've never done it....

I can't believe there's no duct tape in your design.

Very cool. Please post some pics if possible. Like dlowrance, I too have always wanted to install one but haven't got around to it.
It won't be long for the bugs. Planting trees last night and believe it or not swatting mosquitoes already.

Neat...I bet my trout would just love me if I installed one of those.

I imagine that fish will congregate around the area once they know there is meat dropping down from the shinny chrome moon. Should be some fun photos once that happens.

A friend of mine had one of those rigged up at his East Texas lake house. At night there would be schools of smaller fish at the lights picking off the bugs and in the perimeter were large bass waiting to prey on those smaller fish.

Hi, I'm intrigued. What watt light? incandescent or compact flourescent (to save on electric) or doesn't it matter? How do you make the light and housing water tight from rain? Do you run it all night to provide maximum bug 'production' for the fish? Is there an intensity difference that matters (in other words how close to water surface is best?)
Someone said a bug zapper would work too but will fish be interested in live bugs over dead ones?
Thanks!

I've wanted to hang a bug zapper over the pond for years now but I've never done it.... Now, that sounds like a good idea on how to use a bug zapper. Until now, the best idea I had heard, was to give one to your next door neighbor.

Great idea. However, aren't you afraid of the aggressive jump that likes to do acrobatic flips to catch the bugs mid flight, hovering just a few inches away from the bulb?

I wonder if that thing could knock a small bat chasing bugs into the water?

Now, that's a wicked setup. Perfect height, over a great location.

The light is attracting the fish. Not sure if the bugs were the attractor. Try to record it to see if the light is actually working.

I watched for 10 minutes or so and every insect that hits the water is slurped up by one of several competing fish. I think the light brings the fish in to investigate and when they see the insects hitting the water they stay for lunch. They are just learning and the insect population is still rather low.

Dwight, there's a bumper crop of the Minnesota State Bird here now. How many do you want sent up there?
