I installed this pump and aeration system last fall. It has been running continuously with no problems. I turned it off yesterday to checck the filter, etc.. It would not start back up . It justs "hums" and then shuts off. I checked all the filters, it is very clean sitting in a housing. I changed out the extension cord. Any troubleshooting tips? It is under warranty but if its something simple I'd like to try it.

Thanks

It may just need a light tap or your vanes are in a bind. In that case unplug, remove vanes and reinstall the way they came out.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Remove the 5 external bolts on the end 7/16ths and then remove the 6 bolts 3/8th that enclose the vane box (impeller plate) to see if your vanes are broken. With the vanes removed see if it will now run.

How does that happen guys? I've never had it happen.

In the compressor that was in my picture, there could be two causes. 1) overheating. It was in a small cabinet without any ventilation. or 2) water. It was placed at the waters edge, and the pond could have risen. There was signs of moisture in it.

But, as a tribute to Gast compressors, I cleaned it up, replaced the bad vanes and some other parts and it fired right up. It's back in the same cabinet, this time with the ventilation fan hooked up and running.

I checked the vanes (there is a great Howto Youtube video on this) and they looked perfectly fine; no breakage and they spin freely. Next step is to change out the capacitor since they are cheap and easy to get at.

Not the same piece of equipment but when I first got a Kasco surface aerator I plugged it in and it just hummed. To my surprise all it took was a push of the propellor and it fired right up. It surprised me with all that horsepower and the propeller wouldn't budge but a nudge was all it took. From then on no nudging needed.

I have a mag drive pump I use for my homemade iron filter that need a tap on the side to get the impeller turning. Apparently the impeller I just replaced doesn't sit right at react but a tap gets it moving.

I changed out the start capacitor that sits on top of the unit ($5) and it started right up.
