Water is still cool, so they are more picky. They are feeling the resistance of the bobber and spitting it back out.

That makes a lot of sense. I noticed in my pond If I use a bobber the fish see it, and won't even look at the bait much less bite. but the second I take off the bobber the fish go nuts.
