Pond Boss Forums AERATION Systems questions Retreiveing the aeration pod.

I am receieving my aeration system in the next couple of weeks. It probably tells me in the instruction, but do you have to put a bouy or float on the line that attaches to the pod so you can get it up to clean it?

I bet a safety line and a float are worth adding in case you want to pull the diffuser/airstone up for any reason (cleaning, change location, etc.). You'd save wear and tear on the airline by not pulling on it. I've got three different kinds of floats in my pond: a pintail hen decoy, actual swimming pool floats (like for lane ropes), and a plastic gallon jug.

Bill Cody has warned of safety ropes with virtually no slack and the possibility of the float lifting the diffuser/airstone off the bottom when the rope shortens by twisting, so use a weak float (wrt bottom unit weight) or a long rope.

Thanks Theo. The long rope was good adivce I had'nt thought about.

We actually use the black poly rope and tie a loop just below the surface. The poly rope floats and being black you will not see it.

Caution is needed in lakes that use boats for the rope just below the surface will be tangled in a prop.

I'm not sure in your last "Toy" post heybud, but did your rc boat have a prop or was it an airboat?
