My pond is 3/4 of an acre and about 8 ft. deep. I have a brand new aeration system, 1/4 hp with 2 diffusers. Bought from Stoney Creek. They recommended that I run it 2 hrs. in the morning and then again in the evening for 2 hrs., which is what I am doing. They said stick to this schedule for about 2 weeeks and then increase slowly to continuously. They said this was not a hard and fast rule, just a suggestion.
Does anyone have any other ideas? I would like to run it as often as I can without doing any damage to the pond and the bass and bluegill. I have also posted some more info on my pond under the topic brown water and ammonia.
Thanks

I would do exactly what that tell you. Apparently they feel you should break your pond in before running it 24/7. You must have some poor quality water that you do not want to bring up all at once.

The folks at Stoney Creek know what they are doing and I buy all my equipment from them. I have also purchased fish from them too. I recommend them highly. There are other so called experienced suppliers out there that will give you bad information.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Stoney Creek is taking the general conservative approach. You can start increasing run times after one week if the water down wind from the boil does not stink like rotten eggs or sulfur. Increase to 3hrs&3hrs for two or three days then 4hrs & 4hrs for three days then 5hrs & 5hrs. Since your pond is only 3/4 acre and if the 1/4 hp compressor is a rotary vane unit then you should not have to run the aerator much more than two 5 hrs periods per day to get complete mixing each day.
