A few years ago, I saw on TV a brief story about a man who had invented/patented a device that was incredibly efficient at circulating water. He had tried a bazillion variations, eventually finding a shape that looked like a cross between a 'screw drive' propeller and the agitator out of a washing machine. I know, but stick with me here:
It was his claim that this thing, when placed at the bottom of even a fairly large body of water, could very efficiently get the whole volume of water slowly cycling in that donut shape. It was so efficient it didn't need to spin very fast - you can barely see a disturbance on the surface.
Has anyone run into this? If accurate, this could be a much cheaper alternative to aeration.

There are products simular to what you describe on the market~ they are good at "destratifying" or mixing but not at getting DO levels up through out the water column. Also, you have to run electricity into the water and are limited by cable length.
