If the purpose of aeration is to transfer deep water to the surface. If I suck water from surface and pump down to the bottom will that serve the same purpose. I could suck water from about 1-2 feet deep and hard pipe my pump down to the deep part of pond which is about 10 feet. I can even drill 1/4 or 1/8 inch holes in the deep pipe starting around 6 feet to transfer at different depths. Please give your thoughts on this. Thanks

I think the main purpose is to raise the amount of dissolved O2 in the water. I don't think that your idea would help with that. But it would help in reducing or eliminating a thermocline and taking what O2 that is on the surface and putting it to different depths. Could you kill two birds with one stone, since you will be running a pump anyway and run a fountain or diffused aeration system?

Jugline, a bottom diffuser will move much more water to the surface for O2 absorbtion per kilowatt used than pumping water.
