Just had a couple of soft shelled crabs for lunch. When you can buy them still alive you know they are fresh. Clip the front half inch off of them. Flip up the sides and remove the gills. Flip them over and cut off the apron. Coat them in some flour with your favorite seasonings. Heat up some butter or oil in a frying pan and cook each side of the crab for about a minute. You can eat them plain or on a bread roll or between two slices of bread. Mmmmm...!
Probably a bit hard to find out in the Midwest, but around the Chesapeake and I am sure anywhere else you can find blue crabs they're fairly common from the first full moon in April 'til July.
No cracking, picking or any of that pain when eating hard crabs.

Just woke up from my afternoon nap, first thing I read, and now I am hungry.
Sounds great CJ!
Nothing like that around here, but I do have some Blue M&M's.

"a bit hard" That's an understatement!
Being basically 100 miles away from a large city sure puts a crimp in the seafood selection! Not to mention roughly 1,000 miles from any salt water.......

I may go to Massachusetts for some fishing this month Scott. I'll think about you when I'm there eating some fresh seafood right off the pier. I know it's not profound but once it's frozen it's just not the same!
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Go ahead, rub it in. While you're gone I might have a fresh YP dinner!
I haven't had fresh Bluefin Tuna or Wahoo in a while either. Bleufin steak, coated with a mixture of italian bread crumbs, parmesian cheese, a little garlic and some fennel seeds. Seared in a hot pan with some olive oil. Cooked *just enough* so it turns color in the middle.
I hear ya on freezing - seafood is always better fresh!

I'm really into scallops and deep fried clams myself but there's not many saltwater fish I don't like to eat!

I enjoy freshwater fish, but seem to like saltwater fish more. My favorites though are the shellfish. I love raw oysters!

27 days and I am headed to Venice Tuna Fishing.....We went in February and brought back several hundred lbs of tuna and amberjack and ran out like 2 months ago. The only logical solution I can think of is that we need to go tuna fishing every 3 months....
I definitely like saltwater fish better than freshwater!
