This is due to the fact it has 2 motors. Bottom motor runs to full speed (4 secs) prior to inside hooper motor starting. As the bottom motor begins some food vibrates down to the motor. THen the top motor comes on for set time. THe bottom motor continues for full 4 secs. If you can stabilize the feeder it will not vibrate as much. Also the feeder came with a plate with a smaller opening. Lay it in the bottom of the hopper and it will lessen vibratioin feeding. If you have any number of bluegill, catfish or trout you will eventually need to feed this much anyway. Hope that helps.
