I have a small pond thats 75 feet wide and about 90 feet long. The deepest section is normally 5-6 feet and tapers up to less than a foot deep. The pond is 9 years old and has never had aeration.
In my area of WV we have not had any real rain in over 45 days and the pond is the lowest I have ever seen it.It has recently turned the murkiest greenish-brown color I have ever seen.
Now to the question. My wife is worried about her koi fish. We have 20-25 koi that range from 6-10 lbs and she is worried about having a die off due to the lack of rain/oxygen. I've spent all day reading thru the archives and I'm as confused now as I was when I started. We have always let nature run its course with the pond but I'm beginning to worry about what do with 100 lbs of dead fish and a very unhappy wife.
We had stocked 75 bluegills and 25 bass years ago and we usually feed the fish every evening. I havent seen a bass come to feeding all summer and I havent seen a bluegill around the feeding dock for over a month. We did have three catfish coming to feed and I found one dead a couple weeks back but havent seen the other two since then.
Is it too late to do anything? Would adding any type of aeration just make matters worse? Any advise would be most appreciated wink

Bob, aerating wouldn't hurt at all provided you started the system up properly. I think you'd have an easier time dealing with the dead fish than the unhappy wife....... wink

If the pond doesn't get rain before the winter hits, the aeration system will help the fish get thru the winter without a winterkill.
