We've got a 7 acre bass lake we've built that's about 5 years old. This lake receives a lot of run off from an adjecent sod farm hence it get's fertilized 'naturally'.

Last year we had a natural growth of Chara/Muskgrass all around the lake and on the road bed which was shallower. We loved this as it cleansed the water and provide cover for our forage population.

This year we have seen no Chara/Muskgrass at all despite doing nothing different with the lake. We are seeing filimentous algae but now Chara.

Any suggestions as to what might be the cause of it know growing this year? (Could the reason be that we've had little or no rain this year to force run off from the fertilized sod farm)

Thanks.

My pond is the same way Ned. My water is pretty murky but basically the same condition. I haven't seen the chara this year just the FA floating.

It's true hard work never killed anybody, but I figure, why take the chance?

FA will grow quicker than Chara, and earlier in the year. If this year was cooler than last year, that could be one cause.

Thanks Essup! You may have hit on the cause as it's been much cooler so far down here this year then last. Could very well be the reason.
