I just got my 1.5 acre lake done in OCT. With alot of rain it's already full. Put the fish in a month ago. Was wondering if I should put that stuff that turns the water blue. I don't know anything about it so any info would help. The water is a little dirty from the rain running off through the mud before going into the lake. I put 20 tons of lime as soon as it was built. Thanks.

Not sure why you would want to do that. It is generally used to cut down on sunlight penetration to fight weed problems.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Ditto and you'd be suppressing your phytoplankton and subsequently zooplankton -- not something you really want to do in the pond's early stages.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

I wouldn't. The phytoplankton and subsequently zooplankton growth are the building blocks (i.e. food) of forage fish and YOY in your pond. That's what allow the little fish to grow up to be big fish.

Ok. Thanks I won't do it. Didn't know that it could cause that. Just liked the blue but will leave it like it is.

If the pond clears up and you don't fertilize it, pond is likley to develop some type of weed problems. Blue dye can then be fairly effective to reduce - suppress amount of weed growth esp deeper than 2-3ft. Dye acts as a shading factor. After the pond is colored. A little dye should be added (1/16 to 20th original amount) every month or so to help maintain proper color and filtration effect.
