We have a rather large pond 56+ acres in south Georgia and in general keep the 1 to 3 pounders to eat. It gets very little fishing pressure. This week my 12 year old son caught a rather large Bass that we measured at 26 inches long and 16 inches around. We did not have a good scale. Can you estimate the weight of this pretty lady who still swims free to make more babies? Is there some sort of chart available?

First welcome to PB. This may help.

There are a couple of methods. I usually average the 2.

L X L X G / 1000
26 X 26 X 16 = 10.816

and
L X G X G / 800
26 X 16 X 16 = 8.32

Avg. = 9.568

Thanks ewest. Also thanks for the links. I will see if I can do a search prior to posting the same question. I will also try to post a picture or have my son do it, he is much smarter than me.

We also have a Wr chart found at bottom of this page http://www.lakework.com/articles.php
tells you how to run these. We (my employees) were doing fishery survey last night in Dublin (actually Adrian). They got some good bass but also about 6 eels (in a 6 acre pond), that is the most ever in one pond. If you are trying to produce bigger bass might let some of those 3 lb bass go and keep more 10-14 inch bass, but that is a pretty general statement but usually lots of bass that size with little fishing pressure. Good luck!

Thanks for the info Greg. Our pond is real close to Adrain. We really need a survey. A couple of my partners live in Canton. We will be in touch.

Brewb, go up into the Common Pond Q&A section at the top of the main forum page.

There's a bunch of info. there on how to post pics.

When I click on the link it opens a message thread on posting pictures. If that still does not work search using the phrase "posting photos".
