If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

JHAP, rest assured knowing you are upping your 'useful post' count. Thank you. I was just going to say that, but I agree 100% with you on the Labor Laws, both Federal and State. Not to mention Liabilities, which were not mentioned JHAP, True Professional! (even your GSF get a 5 Star rating on this one) Gflo. Reading this thread as a former employer and not responding till now. I see you as an eager and passionate person who really could get totally absorbed into their work. It wont be all candy types of ops. You dont like paperwork, that will be a detriment. Much more involved are the mundane aspects of everyday operations. I have to tell you. If I had a short term job opening in this field, I most assuredly would give it to you! Dont take this wrong, but you are selling yourself short. Confidence is the key! Good Luck

Yes, Jeff is indeed one of the Pond Boss "men." As in "you are the man."

Thank you all for the kind words.
I don't want to belabor this issue any more. Let me close my involvement in this post by saying this. The primary purpose of my initial post was to respond to two comments/questions.
Cecil mentioned that he was not sure if it was legal to hire someone for free and Dr. Dave asked about rules related to unpaid interns.
For uninformed readers it is important to realize that Cecil and Dr. Dave in some ways represent the two different types of entities (for profit and non profit respectively) that I was discussing.
Cecil, as he has discussed on this forum, amongst his other vocation(s) raises fish for profit. There are many people that read these forums that work in the for profit sector of the pond goods and services world. Since Cecil specifically mentioned his concern about unpaid interns, and since Cecil works in the for profit sector, I decided I should give him (and any one else that was interested) some information related to the use of unpaid interns.
Dr. Dave OTOH works in the non-profit sector. Since Dr. Dave specifically asked about rules, I decided to give Dr. Dave a link that discusses these rules.
Let me close my involvement in this post by offering this advice:
If you are in the non-profit sector, and if you wish to use unpaid interns, there are rules that govern the use of unpaid interns. Unpaid interns can be used in the non profit sector, and, provided that the appropriate terms and conditions are met, the use of unpaid interns is perfectly acceptable.
If you are in the for-profit sector, then I urge you to tread carefully in regards to using unpaid interns. Even if these unpaid interns are being placed in your company by a college or university. Educate yourself as to U.S. labor laws and your state's labor laws (which are typically more restrictive that U.S. labor law).

Hmmmm, one minute apart. I think you're loosing your edge.
Perhaps it was the typing that slowed you down.

Dang. I have to admit it, that was one of the most cogent, well-reasoned, and lucid posts I've read from (Pronounced "The Accountant Formerly Known as JHAP.") I make a motion that his useful post count be augmented by a total of 5.8 for that performance, and even at that level, I feel as though I am selling him short. Do I have a second?

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

You just need to change your screen name to "The Symbol," or we could just refer to you as TAFKAJ. That's an impressive useful post total! Congrats!
