Beautiful Male CC specimen. I love their blue/grey coloration as they age. The WR of that fish has to be 120+?

Wow! What a pretty fish Scott! Have they already tried to spawn in your pond for the year?

According to the WR chart in the archives a CC that is 29" should weigh 11.9#, a 30" should weigh 13.3#. This one was 29.5" and 15.94#.
It wears tag #0005 and is back cruising. I haven't seen any signs of them spawning in the pond. The neighbor's CC are full of eggs/milt.
This one ate a piece of hotdog that was soaking in the pond since Thursday in 12' of water. #4/0 Circle Hook. There is a CC in the pond that I caught Spring of '09 that was 28" and 14.8#. That one is wearing tag 0001 and hasn't been seen again.

Those rainbows are providing great food for the catfish Scot!

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Scott,
That has to be the prettiest catfish I've ever seen.
If I would have caught it in my pond I would have had a real difficult decision on releasing such a beautiful critter, or getting it out so that it doesn't double in size by this time next year.

Even with as gorgeous as that cat is, I am surprised you let him swim another day... Still can't get over the rich coloration, fatness and perfect shape of that fish. Awesome!

Geez, with that white belly and grey back it looks more like a great white than a CC! Beautiful fish!!

If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1) And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1) Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT? PB answer: It depends.

Great speciman. Per TJ, 'Beautiful Male CC specimen'. Is that info from Theo's gape vs. length graph? Or did you see other credentials?

I knew it was a CC due to curved anal fin. I knew it was male as they tend to get greyish blue as they age. I wish I could recall Theo's stats for gape vs length...it was a great article. I sure miss his presence.

When I renovated the pond and broke the retaining dam to let the fish into the larger portion of the pond there were a number of CC that continually tried to swim "upstream". Most were in the 16" range, but 4 were large enough that I couldn't get my hand around their body right behind their head to pick them up. They were two handed fish in the Fall of 2008. I think those are 4 "Shamu's" swimming around in the pond now, two tagged, two not tagged. As long as I don't see CC reproduction, I kinda like the idea of a few huge fish swimming around. I caught the last one on a floating Rapala with either 4# or 6# test line and that was a suprise! I really thought it was a good sized LMB. All the other CC gotta go, and I'm working at that (albet slowly).

man that cat is a total butterball. probably one of the most perfect specimens i've ever seen. great catch and obviously a very healthy, well-fed, young fish. if somebody hangs that one on a rod and reel, they're gonna have their hands full!

I'll get a photo of my albino male one of these days. Rounded anal, 24-31 rays. The big males can look really different, lose the forked tail, lose the spots, get a bulbous head with a crease in the center. Massive pond apex predator there. If it fits in their mouths they eat it. One of the cleanest specimens I have seen, nice fish. Might be 1/3 grown.

Now that is one nice fish, and the reason I wanted them in my pond. Now I am sure mine will not reach that size since it is over stocked but one can hope.
Have you tried to use Jug lines?
When did you say you stocked these again?
