I have an 18 pound female Boston Terrier whose most common activity is asking to go outside the minute you sit down, put your feet up and turn on the TV. However she does serve one important task around the house; kitchen floor cleaner. Whenever one drops anything edible on the floor, all you have to do is say, "Yo Maggie, little help." She can hear this no matter where she might be and will be in the kitchen in seconds. All you have to do is point to the problem area with you foot and problem is gone in no time.

I too have a vacuum with four legs!

My dog is a lab... Enough said about her fondness of food. She's a good enough bird dog to make me happy too. That is when she isn't being bitten by copperhead snakes!

Mine is a Blue Lacy, the state dog of Texas. She really likes the new sod I just put down in the yard. She digs like crazy here in town in the backyard. For no reason I can determine but when we get out to the farm, she doesn't dig at all. It must be moles or something. Other than that, she's an excellent tracking dog. She's a quick learner(except for the digging) and super smart.

My daughters dog Diva can predict the weather. More accurate than any weather man/woman. She is a Sheba...Diva the Sheba...LOL

My dog Ranger can catch bass Like a bear catches trout under the water. I have seen him bail in and totally disappear and come out with the fish in his mouth. He is suppose to work cattle but just like all of us he perfers fishing instead.

You should loan him out to fellow pond owners who need to cull their bass...

Flushing and retrieving birds. His mom would bring back anything shot; feathers or fur, or durn near die trying.

She's killed a mole and a mouse too. I forgot about that.

My Chessie is really good at sleeping in the yard while a deer sleeps in the yard on our terrace. Mind you, this is all inside a fence. Then, when we walk out, he lazily gets up, strolls a few feet towards the deer, and barks once or twice before ambling over to us to get his head scratched. He's really good at that.

My aunt and uncle had a female golden retriever named "Ginger". She was a friendly dog, and occasional crotch hound. She mostly languished her life away near the AC vents the summer and the fireplace in the winter. One day she located a badger and killed it. I remember it was a highly conversed event. None of us could believe she had the what-see to kill a badger.

Badgers, Badgers? We don't need no stinkin' badgers!

Thanks Stick. Unfortunately he's on his way out. Currently 12 years 8 months old and he was diagnosed back in December (when the pic was taken) with a serious heart murmur. He's on meds, but it's progressed to the point where he's breathing quick even in his sleep. I was hoping that he'd hang around until I got a new pup, but I doubt it. The breeding failed and I think it'll be August before I get one.

I feel for you. When I knew my last dog was on the way out it made my heart really sad.

Losing a dog is hard... I think when you hunt with them it makes it even harder.

Thanks guys. Of the 4 Springers that I've had, his mother and him will be the worst. Both of them had/have a hell of a personality. His sister was more like a cat. She would do just fine without you.

Yes and no. Some of the bloodlines go way back and are pretty common, there are a few that I know, and I want to stay away from. I am going thru the same breeder that Reba (the dam of Cal and Dottie) came from, Julie Hogan of Manassas, Va.

Well, when you do make the trip stop by... Manassas is less than a half hour from me.

We have two dogs with distinctly different personalities. The Lab/Shepherd/? mix female is good for keeping people out (actually too aggressive) and probably the quickest food vacuum I've ever seen (do they have competitions?). She constantly craves food. The Golden Retriever has the sweetest personality and is the most expressive dog I've ever seen. He constantly craves attention. We're thinking about making him into a therapy dog.

I should add.. I think he may also be the smartest dog I've ever seen. We have a lever handle and he figured out how to open the house door and come inside at will - to the point that we had to keep it locked so he wouldn't come in and leave the door open. I guess maybe we should just teach him to close it behind him.

I grew up with 2 goldens and they are very sweet dogs. Many fond memories of Goldie and Blue. They are constantly in need of attention. Much the same way labs are... They really are both great breeds. I've thought about getting a Chessie next as I heard they are a bit more protective and will actually bite an aggressor. With me working the midnight shift, it would be nice to have a dog that wasn't so friendly to everyone.
