I just had a 1 acre pond built on my ranch in Central Texas. The pond is 6 to 10 feet deep and is being supplied by a couple of springs in the adjacent hillside (i have a channel that was dug to let the spring flow into the pond. It was filling up great for the first week - then suddenly began to drop. It has lost 3 to 4 feet over the last week. I suspect that additional springs were feeding directly into the lake (about 4 to 5 feet below the intended surface and that as the water table started to fall, the water was drained by these imbedded springs. My question is - what can I do now? Can I somehow plug the imbedded springs (so that only the channeled surface spring fills the lake)? if so, how? and will it cost me a fortune?

That is just a method to bring your thread up to the top of the threads so it will noticed, which hopefully will result in you getting an answer from someone that actually knows what they are talking about (as opposed to me).

Mark, think of it as in fishing terms...if you jerk or "bump" the rod your more likely to get a fishes attention, right? Same here with fisherman, give it a shake and folks notice it.

Seems to me that you have to first identify the problem(drain) before you can attack it. Drain after temporarily rerouting the spring inflow. Then apply 2 ft. of well compacted clay to the leak and/or maybe the leaks.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.
