I'd like to aerate my ponds, and I'd like to use a windmill.

However, the area where my ponds are located, was carved out of a ~60 year old forest, so surrouned by 60-100ft tall trees.

I'm wondering if/where I could locate the windmill for best operation?

When I looked into that for my pond, I was told to put the windmill higher than any trees. Since that wasn't an cost effective option, I went with electric. How tall are the trees on the island? I think placing it on the island would be your best bet, and getting it as high as possible. How big is the pond?

Total surface area of the ponds is 1.3 acres.

The tree on the island is about 60+ ft tall silver maple.

No way I'm getting a windmill taller than the surrounding trees...

The problem for aerating a pond with an island is getting the water currents to the back sides of the island. Island acts as a baffle to circulation. One really needs a diffuser on each side of the island. Windmills and trees do not go well together and are a poor combination for obvious reasons.
