I'll probably be in bed or reading by the time New Years arrives. I guess I'm just an old fart. I don't take this New Years stuff too seriously.

I don't really worry about staying up to watch the ball drop, it's more important that my feet hit the floor in the morning.

Our new year day tradition is to goose hunt, so early to bed for me on New Years eve. If today is any indication of how New Years day will be the new year will start out with a blast (ie we shot a 5 man limit today)

Lassig,

If you hear any of those goose whispering about heading for my ponds this spring -- shoot them!

Will stay up until 12 EST and watch the ball drop. Then to bed. Then up early to continue to pick up xmas trees and transport to lakes. Usually average about 100 trees. Not this year probably only about 30.

It's 50/50 I'll be up. So I'm with Cecil & ewest.
The wife likes to see the ball drop & I usually am up doing something.
If I'm into a good book at the time, then I'm with Cecil.
If not I'm either with ewest or in the basement reloading. ;\)

I'll be going to an insane number of party calls and noise violations and probably will finish the night off by taking a drunk driver to jail... Working on New Year's Eve ain't no fun! 3rd year in a row too.

Just be careful we value your presence here. You do work with a partner or have back up don't you?

I have never seen it. Hunting geese is just what we do this time of year.

Cecil, I would welcome a little goose problem at my pond. The water level is still not staying up. It dropped to the 2' mark on the water lavel gauge last week and then rose to just over 4' after a 3" rain last Thursday/Friday. It was at 3' 9" on Tuesday of this week. So it appears to drop an inch a day until it reaches about 2' 3" and then slow downs to almost stopping. I have a time laspe camera on the water level gauge that takes a picture a day so I will be able to monitor this and see if it changes.

I don't remember the last time I was awake when the ball dropped.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Sleeping is one of my hobbies and hobbies trump most things including a ball dropping at midnight in New York city.

The HAPs are going to spend a quiet evening at home this year. We usually stay awake but rarely "watch the ball drop." We stopped venturing out on new years eve a few years back when a drunk driver nearly took us out on the freeway. Living near the beach, we get to see enough entertainment just looking out the window and watching the local idiots.

The 'skis will be passing on the opportunity to spend the days surrounding NYE at the pond project, working on the gar/apt. Too much snow for the 2 x 4 PU truck with street tires. The front wheel drive sedan could handle it, but the driveway into the woods is totally torn up from concrete trucks and electric company trucks/trencher. The sedan would come out the other end looking like a Flint-mobile.
So...
I get to put new struts on the Flint-mobile today. The garage is warming up as I type. Wahoo...another fun project for Bski.
-
We typically hit the hay around 11 and set the TV to auto-sleep at 12:10. It's not uncommon for the 'skis to auto-sleep before the TV.

Family Gallus will be playing board games as usual 'til midnight tonight, with the addition of some family friends.

Brettski:

It's time to buy a set of steel wheels and snow tires for each corner of your truck. Swap them out in the Spring and your wintertime worries will be over.

Methinks I'll be checking out the inside of my eyelids around midnight.

I'll probably be up around Midnight but I'm not sure if the wife will be up. The kids better be in bed which usually happens around 8PM.

If I'm up at midnight EST, I'll be toasting to all of you. If I'm up at 1:00 AM EST, I'll try and toast to y'all in the CST. If I'm up at 2:00 AM EST, I'll try and kick a toast to y'all in Mountain. If I'm up at 3:00 AM, I'll be puking in a bucket next to my bed, so I won't be toasting to you PST folks.

I will probably record the festivities and replay them over black-eyed peas, greens, cornbread and football.

Yeah, right.

I may set the alarm clock for 0300 just to wake up and think about that.
