About the tornado theory. I was in Atlantic Beach, North Carolina when a water spout formed about 5 miles off shore. Luckily, the funnel lifted off the water about a mile off shore and the storm went over the town. It dumped about 10" of water in just a few minutes. Moments after the storm, as the water drained away, I saw fish (plural) on the sidewalks. Because I was in the boardwalk area, I took some of them back to the ocean (alive).
