I bought about 8 bags of game fish chow long about March I guess. started feeding it about a month later. Anyways, it smells and look fine but i noticed that quite a few of the small sized pellets sink. Is this normal? I'd say 25% of the feed I throw in sinks. The fish actually enjoy this but I don't really like it.

IME some bags of fish feed have more sinkers than others. The highest % I've seen was with my first bag of Aquamax 600 - maybe 1/3 of it would sink within 5-10 seconds.
My best guess is that the amount of air whipped into the mix during manufacture varies sometimes and causes the occasional sinkers.
My fish always like sinkers best, too. Less work and exposure to the surface.

Sinkers and floaters... Something very stinky about that!

We're the wholesale distributor for Muenster and Arkat pet foods. Both companies make excellent catfish feeds, as well as specialty fish feeds. Both companies have had batches of "floating" fish food that doesn't float. In visiting with the owners of these companies I've learned that there are many variables that can affect how long the pellets stay suspended. The size of the kibble affects the volume... larger kibbles are more likely to float. Other factors include fat levels, fat sources, how the kibble is extruded, how much cooling time before it's bagged, etc. etc. Purina has the same issues at times with their products. George S.

Same with the stuff I use from TSC, about 25% sinks. The fish like it and enough floats that I get to watch them (my only reason for supplemental feeding).

I bought my first bag of Game Fish Chow last week and that is the first thing I noticed too. About 20 to 30% sinks. I have always used the floating catfish food from the local Co-Op and it all floated, but i guess it doesn't really matter.

I use Aquamax 5D08 and have zero sinkers. I wish it WOULD sink because my brooders splash out about 2 gallons of water at every feeding (4 times per day).
