Bruce, I know that you reared Perch back in 2007, I read the whole thread. I am contemplating trying to duplicate this if Anderson’s doesn’t have minnows in stock. I was wondering, where did you get your original stock? I know you didn’t lose that many, but I have a few questions about that experience. 1. How many perch do you think could be reared in a 100 gal Rubbermaid tub? 2. What was the hardest part of rearing them, besides them being out on your Ranch and you being in town? 3. Which would be easier to raise for a first timer, Golden Shiners or Perch? 4. Last question, did you create the bend in the tube to go above or even with the water to allow automatic draining? Thanks ahead of time… Russ

1. What size do you want to start/stop with?
3. Get Bruce's opinion on Perch, but GSH are very skittish in tubs IME - quite prone to jumping out.
4. The beauty of Bruce's design is that the top pipe path sets the water level, while the bottom water is what drains out.

I was thinking fingerlings after talking on another post with, Jakeb, TwoLakes, and runko. I was thinking fry and then raising them from there. But, I think it would be better as fry seeing how I want to almost duplicate what he was doing...
One other question, How many perch do you think I could raise in the 100G tub, prior to having to release them into a pond?

Hi, Russ.
Are you talking about raising yellow perch, or bluegill?
Holding a redear sunfish is like running with scissors.

Yellow Perch not bluegill. I seen some of the ones you guys raised, but being raised in Michigan, I love Yellow Perch and Walleye.
I just don't think I could raise Walleye big enough, so I think Yellow Perch would be the best one to try...
