enjoying this in el dorado too heybud, thanks for sharing the trip.
those bamboo sprouts are HUGE.
my family owns about a 1.5 acre patch of japanese timber bamboo near sacramento. it grows over 60 ft tall and can be 6 to 8 inches in diameter. the sprouts are not as big as that moso you pictured, but they are GREAT eating.
GSF are people too!

Now I know why they sent so many to be planted along the Potomac River in Washington DC. They really are beautiful!

This tree was planted at a famous shrine in Omishima, Japan. The tree was planted by the first emperor of Japan 2600 years ago. Just imagine the things that have happened since this tree has been around.

We visited this very special shrine yesterday. It is for boating and ships to remain safe. The amazing part it was built 500 years ago and is on and island right next to the city of Hiroshima. Some how it survived the blast. The only way to get to it is by boat. This will be my last report from Japan. We will be leaving in a couple of days. The Japanese people have been wonderful to us and this has been an experience of a life time. Thanks to all the PB family for following our journey. Hope you enjoyed the reports. I did learn that CJB can sure stay up late and a special thanks to him for coming along for the ride. Now it is time to get home and manage the pond.

heybud:
I don't know if I'll ever get the chance to go to Japan, but if I don't I feel like I've already been there. Thanks for the pics and the memories.
