about the swiming. I have a golden retriever that loves the water but won't go in past where he can stand. I think its because he had a bad first experience with water. I took him out in the canoe as a pupy it was early spring and the water was probably only about 45 degrees. He was curious about the water and kept sniffing and drinking it. He got the nerve up to stick a paw in the water and then all of a sudden he jumped over the side of the boat. It didn't take him long to realize that he made a mistake and he swam right back to the boat. I had to bend over and pull him back into the boat. Maybee this year I'll get him to start swimming. I always thought it would be fun to play fetch with him in the pond. It would probably be a good way for him to get some energy out too.
I don't let him get in the water much since he is an inside dog but when he is allowed to get in he loves it.
