I live right outside Philadelphia. Highs are in the upper 60's and lows are around 45. Is it too late to plant anything?

Seed cannas planted about 3-4" deep near the waters edge would do well over the winter and start to grow next spring. Seeds are very slow to start where as bulb take off quickly but need to be planted in the spring.

Don't know of any other plants

Winter Rye seed is cheap as dirt and will grow pretty much all winter (about $12 for 60# bag). I've seen growth right thru the snow. It is a great cover crop (for soil stabilization), but lousy for any thoughts of long term. It will die off and turn brown around June/July next year. The growth thru the winter might get it up to about 6" tall. When a little spring rain and above 30 temps occur....stand back. It grows like a weed, 3' - 6' stems.
