"Slick Jim" was the local name for some type of sunfish local to East Texas and highly sought by trotline fishermen.

I do not have a clue as to what variety of sunfish it might be. All I remember (and it's been a while) that in my teen years, several local fishermen raised them in their farm ponds and used them exclusively for throw lines on the Red River below Sheveport,LA.

They claimed that the blues and Ops loved them, but more important.. they were extremely hearty and stayed alive longer than other baitfish.

Anyone ever heard this nickname or have any idea of what sunfish it might be?
